SolarDialer

SolarDialer for Copper CRM

Connect your Copper account: new leads, leads that reach a status, leads and people you tag, or the contact of an opportunity that reaches a stage, are called by SolarDialer's AI agent within minutes, interested leads are transferred live to your closer, and every call goes on their activity with its summary, transcript and recording.

You need a SolarDialer account and a Copper API key (Settings → Integrations → API Keys; an admin's key sees every record).

Call by status, tag or stage

Choose a lead status, a tag, an opportunity stage or "any new lead", and a campaign: each record that matches joins the campaign at once, called on its schedule, always within the lead's legal calling hours.

Every call on the activity feed

Each call is added to the lead's or person's activity as a phone call, with the AI summary, the answers, the transcript and a link to the recording.

Interested leads move on

Pick where interested leads go: a lead status, or an opportunity at a pipeline stage (a Copper lead is converted to a person with that opportunity), and optionally another for transfers. Callbacks become tasks, due when the lead asked.

Tags and fields for your filters

The tags SD Interested, SD Transferred, SD Callback and SD Do Not Call, and the fields SD Outcome, SD Last Call, SD Recording and SD Callback, are set on the record, so your filters and workflow automations can act on them.

Set up in 3 steps

  1. Copy an API keyIn Copper, open Settings → Integrations → API Keys, generate a key and copy it.
  2. ConnectSign in to SolarDialer, open Account → Integrations, enter your Copper login email and the key under Copper and click Connect.
  3. Choose who is calledOn the same page, add a rule: a lead status, a tag, an opportunity stage (or any new lead or person) and the campaign those records join. Optionally pick where interested leads go.

What SolarDialer reads and writes in Copper

Copper dataWhat SolarDialer does with it
Leads and peopleReads the record a rule picks (name, phone, email and address) to call it. Finds (by phone or email) or creates a lead for a call that reached someone (a person, if your account has leads switched off), and sets the SolarDialer fields and tags on it.
Lead statuses, pipelines and opportunitiesReads them for the pickers on your Integrations page and to find the contact of an opportunity a rule picks. Moves an interested lead to the status you picked, or gives them an opportunity at the stage you picked (converting a Copper lead to a person, as Copper's own Convert does), moved to your transfer stage on a transfer.
Tags and custom fieldsReads your tags for the picker; adds the SolarDialer tags to records and creates four text fields once.
Activities and tasksAdds a phone call activity for each call, and a task for each callback booked.
WebhooksWhile you have rules, subscribes to new and changed leads, people and opportunities (only the kinds your rules need) so they are called at once; removes them when you remove the rules or disconnect.

People are called only within each state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. Your Copper data is used only to place and report your calls; see our privacy policy and terms.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect Copper on Account → Integrations: our webhooks are deleted and the key forgotten at once; to be sure it can't be used again, delete it in Copper too (Settings → Integrations → API Keys). The leads and calls already in SolarDialer stay in your account until you delete them, and nothing is removed from Copper. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.

Full setup guide

Everything you need to set it up and keep it running. Stuck? Email info@solardialer.net.

Before you start

  • A Copper account and an API key of one of its users (Settings, Integrations, API Keys), with the email that user signs in to Copper with. Copper lets admins generate keys; an admin's key sees every record (Copper's team permissions limit what other users' keys see).
  • For the fields: a user who may add custom fields. Without them the activities, tags, moves and tasks still arrive.
  • A SolarDialer account with at least one campaign that isn't finished. Leads are called once your account is approved and the campaign is running.

Step by step

  1. Generate an API keyIn Copper, open Settings, then Integrations, then API Keys, click Generate API Key and copy it. Copper ties the key to your user: note the email you sign in with.
  2. Open Integrations in SolarDialerSign in on solardialer.net and open Account, then Integrations. Under Connect, find the Copper card and click Connect Copper.
  3. ConnectEnter your Copper login email and paste the key, and click Connect. The page says "Copper connected" with your account's name, and it appears under Your CRM with a Connected badge.
  4. Add a rule: who is calledUnder Your CRM, in Records to call, choose in Who is called: Any new lead, Any new person, a lead status (Leads reaching ...), a tag (Leads and people tagged ...) or a stage (Opportunity reaches Pipeline: Stage). Pick the Campaign and click Add rule. SolarDialer then adds the webhooks that rule needs to your Copper account.
  5. Choose where interested leads go (optional)In Interested leads go to, pick a lead status, or a pipeline stage for an opportunity. Optionally pick another in Transferred leads go to, for leads put through to your closer: say, Qualified for interested leads and an opportunity stage for transfers. Click Save.
  6. Test itMake a test lead in Copper with your own phone number, tag it, or move it to your rule's status. Copper tells SolarDialer at once, and within a minute or so it is a lead in your campaign. After the call, its activity shows the call.

Settings, explained

Who is called: Any new lead / Any new person
Every lead (or person) added to Copper after the rule was added joins the campaign. Any new lead is offered only when your Copper account uses leads.
Who is called: Leads reaching ...
A Copper lead made in that status, or moved to it after the rule was added, joins the campaign.
Who is called: Leads and people tagged ...
A lead or person made with the tag, or given it after the rule was added, joins the campaign. Records that had the tag before aren't picked unless the tag is added again.
Who is called: Opportunity reaches Pipeline: Stage
When an opportunity is made at that stage or moved to it, its primary contact joins the campaign. An opportunity with no primary contact is skipped.
Campaign
The SolarDialer campaign the rule's records join. Only campaigns that aren't finished are listed. They are called on the campaign's schedule, within each lead's legal calling hours.
Rules
Up to 20, one per status, tag or stage. Each record joins a campaign once: one already called through SolarDialer, or made by SolarDialer, is never added again. Removing rules removes the webhooks they no longer need.
Interested leads go to
An interested lead (one who said yes to your closer, whether or not the transfer connected, or who booked a callback with the closer instead) moves where you pick. A lead status applies to Copper leads (people have no status). A pipeline stage gives a person an opportunity there, owned by the key's user, unless they already have an open one in that pipeline; a Copper lead is converted to a person with that opportunity, as Copper's own Convert does.
Transferred leads go to (optional)
When the transfer to your closer connects, the lead moves here instead: another status, or a stage of any pipeline (an open opportunity in that pipeline moves to it). Leave it for the one above.

What it reads and writes

Read: leads and people
For a record a rule picks: name, first phone number, email, and address (street, city, state, postal code and country).
Read: settings
Your tags, lead statuses, pipelines and stages for the pickers, your activity types and custom fields, and the key's user and whether your account uses leads.
Webhooks
While you have rules, SolarDialer subscribes to new and changed leads, people and opportunities (only the kinds your rules need), so matches arrive at once. Copper doesn't resend a notification it couldn't deliver, so every hour SolarDialer checks the webhooks, subscribes again any that are missing, and picks up new leads, new people and opportunities reaching a rule's stage that it missed. They are removed when you remove the rules or disconnect.
Written: activities
Each call adds a Phone Call activity to the lead or person, dated when the call started, with the outcome, summary, answers, transcript, a link to the recording and a link to the call in SolarDialer. Where your account has no Phone Call type, it is a Note.
Written: four fields
SD Outcome, SD Last Call (date and time in UTC), SD Recording (a link) and SD Callback (when), made as text fields on leads and people the first time, or reused if fields with those names exist.
Written: four tags
SD Interested, SD Transferred (when a transfer connected), SD Callback and SD Do Not Call (when someone asks not to be called), added to the record's own tags.
Written: statuses, opportunities and tasks
For interested leads, the move you picked: a lead status, or an opportunity named after the lead. A callback adds a task "Callback (SolarDialer)" for the key's user, due when the lead asked, saying who calls back.
Written: leads
A record is found by phone, then by email (people first, then leads), or made as a Copper lead (a person, if leads are switched off), only for a call that reached someone, an interested lead or a callback. A call nobody answered only updates a record that already exists.

Troubleshooting

"Copper wasn't connected: Copper didn't accept that API key with that email."

The email must be the one of the user who generated the key. Check both, or generate a new key.

"Copper didn't answer (...). Try again in a minute."

Copper was busy or unreachable. Try again in a minute.

"That Copper account is connected to another SolarDialer account."

A Copper account can be linked to one SolarDialer account at a time. Disconnect it there first.

"Copper didn't accept our notifications (...). Try again in a minute."

Copper refused the webhook, so the rule wasn't kept. Add it again in a minute.

The connection shows Disconnected: "Copper refused the API key"

The key was deleted in Copper, or its user removed. Generate a new key and connect again from the Copper card.

A record wasn't called

Check that it matched the rule after the rule was added (a tag added again, a status reached again), that it has a phone number, that it wasn't already called through SolarDialer, and that its phone isn't already a lead in your account (a number belongs to one lead). Then check that the campaign is running.

"Your Copper tags, statuses and pipelines couldn't be read just now; reload to add a rule."

Copper didn't answer in time. Reload the page.

"That wasn't found in Copper. Reload and pick again."

The tag, status or stage was renamed or deleted after the page loaded. Reload and pick again.

The SD fields don't appear on records

They are made with the first result, and only if the key's user may add custom fields. SolarDialer asks again a day later; the activities and tags still arrive.

"Last problem sending results" with "(trying again shortly)"

Copper was busy (it allows 180 requests a minute per account) or didn't answer. SolarDialer waits and tries again, longer each time; nothing is lost.

FAQ

Why an API key and not a sign-in button?

Copper's sign-in for apps is open to its registered partners; until SolarDialer is one, accounts connect with an API key, as Copper's own Zapier app does. The key is stored encrypted and only ever sent to Copper.

How fast is a matched record called?

Copper tells SolarDialer the moment a record matches, and it joins the campaign within about a minute. The campaign calls it on its schedule, within the lead's calling hours.

What happens to a Copper lead that is interested?

It moves to the status you picked; or, if you picked an opportunity stage, it is converted to a person with an opportunity there. Later results go to that person.

Do I get results for calls made before I connected?

No. A new connection gets the results of calls from then on.

What if I delete a record in Copper?

The next result for that lead finds the record again by phone or email, or makes a new one.

Does removing the tag stop calls?

No. A record that joined a campaign stays a lead there. Removing a rule only stops new records joining.

Will people be called outside calling hours or after asking not to be called?

No. People are called only within their state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. A do-not-call request adds the tag SD Do Not Call.

What does it cost?

The connection is free. Calls are billed by the minute from your SolarDialer balance, with $2 of free calls every month.

Disconnect

  • Click Disconnect Copper under Your CRM on Account, Integrations. SolarDialer's webhooks are deleted, the key is forgotten at once and results stop going to Copper.
  • Delete the key in Copper too (Settings, Integrations, API Keys).
  • Your leads and calls stay in SolarDialer, and nothing is removed from Copper. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.
