Where to get leads

Buy leads that come with proof the homeowner asked to be contacted: it's what protects you if a call is ever challenged. Here is what to ask for, and where solar teams commonly buy leads.

What a good lead comes with

Name, phone, state
The homeowner who filled in the form. The state sets the legal calling hours.
Time submitted
When they filled in the form. Fresh leads answer far more often; consent over a year old is weak protection.
Form page
The web address of the form they submitted.
IP address and browser
Recorded by the form at the moment they submitted it.
Consent wording
The exact text they agreed to. It must say they agree to be called, and it should name your company as one of the companies that may call, including by automated or prerecorded voice.
Proof
A link to an independent record of the submission, such as a TrustedForm or Jornaya certificate.

These are the consent columns in the upload template. They're optional, but upload them with each lead so the proof stays on its record. Only name, phone and state are required.

Questions to ask a lead seller

  1. Is each lead exclusive to me, or sold to several companies?
  2. Does every lead come with a TrustedForm or Jornaya certificate?
  3. Can I see the exact consent wording, and does it name my company?
  4. Where does the traffic come from (your own sites, ads, partners)?
  5. How fresh are the leads when I get them, and do you replace bad numbers?
  6. Can you deliver them as a CSV with the columns above?
