SolarDialer

SolarDialer for Mautic

Connect your own Mautic: the moment you tag a contact, add them to a segment or move them to a stage, SolarDialer's AI agent calls them, interested leads are transferred live to your closer, and every result comes back as a tag your Mautic campaigns can start from, with a call note holding the summary, transcript and recording link.

You need a SolarDialer account and Mautic 5 or later at a public https address, with its API turned on and an administrator to make an API credential.

Call contacts by tag, segment or stage

Choose a tag, a segment, a stage (or "any new contact") and a campaign: matching contacts join the campaign at once, called on its schedule, always within the lead's legal calling hours. Tag them by hand, from a form, or from any Mautic campaign.

Results as tags

SD Called, SD Transferred, SD Interested, SD Callback and SD Do Not Call: start a Mautic campaign or build a segment on any of them, say a follow-up email for everyone who asked for a callback.

Every call on the contact

A call note with the AI summary, answers, transcript and a link to the recording, and the fields SD Outcome, SD Last Call, SD Recording and SD Callback.

Stages for interested leads

Pick a stage and each interested lead moves there, and to your transfer stage when they are put through to your closer.

Set up in 3 steps

  1. Make an API credentialIn Mautic, turn the API on (Configuration → API Settings), then open Settings → API Credentials, click New, pick OAuth 2, name it SolarDialer, save and copy its Client ID and Client Secret.
  2. ConnectSign in to SolarDialer, open Account → Integrations, paste your Mautic's address and both values under Mautic and click Connect.
  3. Choose who is calledOn the same page, add a rule: a tag, segment, stage (or any new contact) and the campaign those contacts join. Optionally pick the stage interested leads move to.

What SolarDialer reads and writes in Mautic

Mautic dataWhat SolarDialer does with it
ContactsReads the name, phone (or mobile), email and address of each contact a rule picks, to call it. Finds (by email, then phone) or creates the contact for a lead whose call reached someone, and sets the SolarDialer tags, fields and notes on it.
WebhookWhile you have rules, one webhook ("SolarDialer"), signed with a secret, tells us when a contact is made, changed or added to a segment; it is deleted when you remove your last rule or disconnect.
SettingsReads your tags, segments and stages for the pickers; creates four contact fields once.
StagesFor interested leads (when you pick a stage), moves the contact to that stage.
Do Not ContactSomeone who asks not to be called gets Do Not Contact for text messages; their email isn't changed.

SolarDialer signs in with an API credential you make, never a user's password, and only ever calls the address you connect. People are called only within each state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. AI calls may need the person's prior written consent where you call: make sure you have it. Your Mautic data is used only to place and report your calls; see our privacy policy and terms.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect Mautic on Account → Integrations. Our webhook is deleted and the credential forgotten at once; to be sure it can't be used again, delete it in Mautic too (Settings → API Credentials). Results stop going to Mautic; the leads and calls already in SolarDialer stay in your account until you delete them, and nothing is removed from Mautic. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.

Full setup guide

Everything you need to set it up and keep it running. Stuck? Email info@solardialer.net.

Before you start

  • Mautic 5 or later, at a public https address on the standard port with a real host name (like https://mautic.yourcompany.com). SolarDialer can't reach a Mautic on a private network or an IP address, and only ever sends its credential to the address you connect.
  • Mautic's API turned on: Configuration, API Settings, API enabled set to Yes, then Save.
  • A Mautic administrator, to make the API credential and, for rules, to let it manage webhooks.
  • Tags, segments or stages on the contacts you want called, or a plan to call every new contact.
  • A SolarDialer account with at least one campaign that isn't finished. Leads are called once your account is approved and the campaign is running.

Step by step

  1. Turn the API onIn Mautic, open the gear menu, then Configuration, then API Settings. Set API enabled to Yes and click Save. Basic authentication can stay off: SolarDialer doesn't use it.
  2. Make an API credentialIn the gear menu, open API Credentials and click New. Pick OAuth 2 as the authorization protocol, name it SolarDialer, and fill in the redirect URI if Mautic asks for one (https://solardialer.net will do: it isn't used). Save, then copy the Client ID and the Client Secret.
  3. Open Integrations in SolarDialerSign in on solardialer.net and open Account, then Integrations. Under Connect, find the Mautic card and click Connect Mautic.
  4. ConnectPaste your Mautic's address (the one you open it at; a page of it will do), the Client ID and the Client Secret, and click Connect. The page says "Mautic connected" with your Mautic's address, and it appears under Your CRM with a Connected badge.
  5. Add a rule: who is calledUnder Your CRM, in Contacts to call, pick a tag, a segment, a stage or Any new contact in Who is called, pick the Campaign and click Add rule. SolarDialer then adds a webhook named SolarDialer to your Mautic (Settings, Webhooks), and matching contacts join the campaign the moment Mautic tells it.
  6. Choose where interested leads go (optional)In Interested leads go to (this stage), pick a stage. Optionally pick another stage in Transferred leads go to, for leads put through to your closer. Click Save.
  7. Start Mautic campaigns from the resultsIn Mautic, start a campaign from a segment filtered on the tag SD Callback, SD Interested, SD Transferred, SD Called or SD Do Not Call; say, a follow-up email to everyone who asked for a callback. Each tag appears the first time a result gives it.
  8. Test itTag a test contact that has your own phone number. Within a minute or so it is a lead in your campaign in SolarDialer. After the call, the contact has the SD Called tag, the SD fields and a call note.

Settings, explained

Tagged
A rule picks a contact that has the tag when it is made or changed in Mautic. Adding the tag changes the contact, so it is picked then; a contact that had the tag before the rule is picked the next time it changes. The rule matches the tag by its name, so after renaming a tag in Mautic, remove the rule and add it again.
Segments: Added to
Contacts added to the segment from now on join the campaign, whether you add them by hand or Mautic's segment update adds them by its filters (when its cron job runs). Contacts already in the segment aren't picked.
Stages: In stage
A rule picks a contact that is in the stage when it is made or changed, as for tags.
Any new contact
Every contact Mautic makes from now on (by hand, a form, an import or the API) joins the campaign. Anonymous visitors aren't contacts until Mautic identifies them.
Campaign
The SolarDialer campaign the rule's contacts join. Only campaigns that aren't finished are listed. They are called on the campaign's schedule, within each lead's legal calling hours.
Rules
Up to 20, one per tag, segment or stage. Each contact joins a campaign once: one already called through SolarDialer, or made by SolarDialer, is never added again. The first rule that matches a contact decides its campaign. Removing your last rule deletes the webhook.
Interested leads go to (this stage)
An interested lead (one who said yes to your closer, whether or not the transfer connected, or who booked a callback with the closer instead) moves to this stage. Leave the stage as it is to move no one.
Transferred leads go to (optional)
When the transfer to your closer connects, the lead moves to this stage instead. The same stage uses the one above.

What it reads and writes

Read: contacts
For a contact a rule picks: first and last name, phone (or mobile when there is no phone), email and address, and, for a segment rule, its segments.
Read: settings
Your tags, segments and stages for the pickers, and your contact fields.
The webhook
While you have rules, one webhook named SolarDialer tells SolarDialer when a contact is made, changed or added to a segment, signed with a secret only your Mautic and SolarDialer know. It is deleted when you remove your last rule or disconnect, and made again within the hour if Mautic turns it off after failed deliveries.
Written: tags
SD Called on every call, SD Transferred when a transfer connected, SD Interested, SD Callback, and SD Do Not Call when someone asks not to be called.
Written: four contact fields
SD Outcome, SD Last Call (date and time in UTC), SD Recording (a link) and SD Callback (when). They are made as text fields the first time, or reused if fields with the aliases sd_outcome, sd_last_call, sd_recording and sd_callback exist.
Written: notes
A call that reached someone adds a note of the type Call with the outcome, summary, answers, transcript, a link to the recording and a link to the call in SolarDialer. A callback adds a note saying when, and who calls back.
Written: stages
Interested and transferred leads move to the stages you picked.
Written: Do Not Contact
Someone who asks not to be called gets Do Not Contact for text messages (Mautic's SMS channel), as a request not to be called covers texts too. Their email isn't changed.
Written: contacts
A contact is found by email, then by phone or mobile, or made, only for a call that reached someone, an interested lead or a callback. A call nobody answered only updates a contact that already exists.

Troubleshooting

"Your Mautic's address must start with https://."

SolarDialer connects only over https. Put your Mautic behind https (a free certificate from Let's Encrypt will do) and paste the https address.

"Paste your Mautic's address with its host name ... (no IP address, user or port)."

Use the name you open Mautic at, on the standard https port, like https://mautic.yourcompany.com.

"SolarDialer couldn't reach a Mautic at that address."

The address must be reachable from the internet over https. Check that it opens from another network, that its certificate is valid, and that it isn't on a private network or behind a VPN.

"Mautic didn't accept that Client ID and Client Secret."

They were copied in part, or the credential was deleted or isn't OAuth 2. Copy both again from Settings, API Credentials.

"Mautic didn't give SolarDialer access (...)."

Check that the API is turned on (Configuration, API Settings) and saved, and that your Mautic is version 5 or later (earlier ones can't sign in an API credential by itself). Then try again.

"Mautic didn't let that API credential read contacts."

The credential's permissions don't include contacts. Give it access, or make it as an administrator, then connect again.

"That Mautic is connected to another SolarDialer account."

A Mautic can be linked to one SolarDialer account at a time. Disconnect it there first.

"Mautic didn't let SolarDialer add its webhook."

The rule wasn't kept: the API credential may not manage webhooks. Give it that permission (or make the credential as an administrator), then add the rule again.

The connection shows Disconnected: "SolarDialer's access was removed in Mautic"

The credential was deleted, or its secret changed, in Mautic. Make a new one and connect again from the Mautic card.

A tagged contact wasn't called

Check that the contact changed after the rule was added (tag it again if not), that the rule's tag wasn't renamed, that the contact has a phone or mobile number, that it wasn't already called through SolarDialer, and that its phone isn't already a lead in your account (a number belongs to one lead). In Mautic, check Settings, Webhooks: SolarDialer's webhook should be published, and with Queue Events Only set in Configuration, Webhook Settings, Mautic's webhook cron job must be running. Then check that the campaign is running.

"Your Mautic tags, segments and stages couldn't be read just now; reload to add a rule."

Mautic didn't answer in time. Reload the page.

"That wasn't found in Mautic. Reload and pick again."

The tag, segment or stage was renamed or deleted after the page loaded. Reload and pick again.

The SD fields don't appear on contacts

The fields are made with the first result, and only if the credential may make contact fields; SolarDialer asks again a day later. Without them, the tags, notes and stages still arrive.

"Last problem sending results" with "(trying again shortly)"

Mautic was busy or didn't answer. SolarDialer waits and tries again, longer each time; nothing is lost.

FAQ

Why an API credential and not my Mautic login?

A credential gives SolarDialer access without anyone's password, and you can delete it at any time. Its secret is stored encrypted and only ever sent to your Mautic's address.

How fast is a newly tagged contact called?

With Mautic's webhooks set to process events immediately, Mautic tells SolarDialer at once and the contact joins the campaign within about a minute; with Queue Events Only, when Mautic's webhook cron job next runs. The campaign calls it on its schedule, within the lead's calling hours.

Can I start a Mautic campaign when a call is done?

Yes: every result is a tag (SD Called, SD Transferred, SD Interested, SD Callback, SD Do Not Call). Build a segment filtered on the tag and start a campaign from it.

Do I get results for calls made before I connected?

No. A new connection gets the results of calls from then on.

Does removing the tag stop calls?

No. A contact that joined a campaign stays a lead there. Removing a rule only stops new contacts joining.

Will people be called outside calling hours or after asking not to be called?

No. People are called only within their state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. AI calls may need the person's prior written consent where you call: make sure you have it before adding them.

Can I connect two Mautic installs?

One per SolarDialer account: the Connect form is hidden while one is connected.

What does it cost?

The connection is free. Calls are billed by the minute from your SolarDialer balance, with $2 of free calls every month.

Disconnect

  • Click Disconnect Mautic under Your CRM on Account, Integrations. SolarDialer's webhook is deleted, the credential is forgotten at once and results stop going to Mautic.
  • Delete the SolarDialer credential in Mautic too (Settings, API Credentials).
  • Your leads and calls stay in SolarDialer, and nothing is removed from Mautic. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.
