SolarDialer

SolarDialer for Nutshell

Connect your Nutshell account: new people, or the people on leads that reach a stage you pick, are called by SolarDialer's AI agent within a minute, interested leads are transferred live to your closer, and every call is logged in Nutshell as a phone call with its summary, transcript and a link to the recording.

You need a SolarDialer account and a Nutshell user who can make an API key (Setup → API keys).

Call new people or leads by stage

Choose "any new person", "any new lead", or a pipeline stage, and a campaign: each match from then on joins the campaign within a minute, called on its schedule, always within the lead's legal calling hours.

Every call in Nutshell

Each call is logged as a phone call with the person and their open lead, with a note holding the AI summary, answers and a link to the recording, and the transcript in Nutshell's own transcript field.

Interested leads move on

Pick a stage and each interested lead's Nutshell lead moves there (and to your transfer stage when they are put through to your closer); someone with no open lead gets one. Callbacks become tasks, due when the lead asked.

Tags for your lists

SD Interested, SD Transferred, SD Callback and SD Do Not Call are added to the person, for your Nutshell filters and lists.

Set up in 3 steps

  1. Make an API keyIn Nutshell, open Setup → API keys, add a key and copy it. Note the email address you sign in to Nutshell with.
  2. ConnectSign in to SolarDialer, open Account → Integrations, enter your Nutshell email and the key under Nutshell and click Connect.
  3. Choose who is calledOn the same page, add a rule: any new person, any new lead, or a stage, and the campaign they join. Optionally pick the stage interested leads move to.

What SolarDialer reads and writes in Nutshell

Nutshell dataWhat SolarDialer does with it
Change logReads the people and leads made, and the leads moved between stages, since its last look (every minute), to find the ones your rules pick.
PeopleReads the name, phone, email and address of those a rule picks, to call them. Finds (by phone or email) or creates the person for a lead whose call reached someone, and adds the SolarDialer tags.
LeadsReads the leads a rule picks and the open leads of a person it writes to; moves an interested person's lead to the stage you picked, or makes one there.
SettingsReads your users, pipelines, stages, tags and activity types for the pickers and call logs; creates the four SolarDialer tags once.
Activities and tasksLogs each call as a phone call, and adds a task for each callback booked, for the user who connected.

People are called only within each state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. A number marked opted out in Nutshell is never called. Your Nutshell data is used only to place and report your calls; see our privacy policy and terms.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect Nutshell on Account → Integrations. The key is forgotten at once; to be sure it can't be used again, delete it in Nutshell (Setup → API keys). Results stop going to Nutshell; the leads and calls already in SolarDialer stay in your account until you delete them, and nothing is removed from Nutshell. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.

Full setup guide

Everything you need to set it up and keep it running. Stuck? Email info@solardialer.net.

Before you start

  • A Nutshell account and a user in it who can make an API key (Setup, API keys). SolarDialer connects with that user's email address and the key.
  • A SolarDialer account with at least one campaign that isn't finished. Leads are called once your account is approved and the campaign is running.
  • For tags, a user allowed to make tags: SolarDialer adds four people tags the first time. Without them, calls are still logged.

Step by step

  1. Make an API keyIn Nutshell, open Setup, then API keys, add a key and copy it. Note the email address you sign in to Nutshell with.
  2. ConnectSign in on solardialer.net and open Account, then Integrations. Under Connect, click Connect Nutshell, enter your Nutshell email and paste the key under API key, then click Connect. The page says "Nutshell connected" with your email, and the account appears under Your CRM with a Connected badge.
  3. Add a rule: who is calledUnder Your CRM, in People to call, choose in Who is called: Any new person, Any new lead, or a stage (Lead reaches Pipeline: Stage). Pick the Campaign and click Add rule. Add as many rules as you like.
  4. Choose where interested leads go (optional)In Interested leads go to, pick a stage. Optionally pick another stage, of any pipeline, in Transferred leads go to, for leads put through to your closer. Click Save. Leave No pipeline to leave leads where they are.
  5. Test itAdd a test person in Nutshell with your own phone number, or move a test lead to your rule's stage. Within a minute or so they are a lead in your campaign. After the call, the person's timeline shows the phone call.

Settings, explained

Who is called: Any new person
Everyone added to Nutshell after the rule was added joins the campaign.
Who is called: Any new lead
For every Nutshell lead made after the rule was added, its first person with a phone number joins the campaign.
Who is called: Lead reaches Pipeline: Stage
When an open lead is moved to that stage, or made in it, after the rule was added, its first person with a phone number joins the campaign. Only active pipelines are listed.
Campaign
The SolarDialer campaign the rule's people join. Only campaigns that aren't finished are listed. They are called on the campaign's schedule, within each lead's legal calling hours.
Rules
Up to 20, one per choice. Each person joins a campaign once: one already called through SolarDialer, or made by SolarDialer, is never added again.
Interested leads go to
An interested lead (one who said yes to your closer, whether or not the transfer connected, or who booked a callback with the closer instead) has their open Nutshell lead moved to this stage: the one in this stage's pipeline, else their newest. Someone with no open lead gets a new lead there, owned by the user who connected.
Transferred leads go to (optional)
When the transfer to your closer connects, the lead moves to this stage instead. It may be in another pipeline: the lead moves to that pipeline.

What it reads and writes

Read: the change log
Every minute, the people and leads made and the leads moved between stages since the last look, from Nutshell's change log.
Read: people
For a person a rule picks: name, primary phone (one marked opted out is never used), primary email and primary address (street, city, state, ZIP and country).
Read: settings
Your users (to know who connected), pipelines and stages for the pickers, people tags, and activity types (to log calls as Phone Call).
Written: phone calls
Each call is logged as a Phone Call activity with the person and their newest open lead, dated when the call started and as long as it lasted, named with its outcome. Its note holds the outcome, summary, answers, a link to the recording and a link to the call in SolarDialer; the transcript is in the activity's transcript.
Written: four tags
SD Interested, SD Transferred (when a transfer connected), SD Callback and SD Do Not Call (when someone asks not to be called), on the person.
Written: leads and tasks
For interested leads, when you picked a stage: their lead moved there, or a lead made for them. A callback adds a task "Callback (SolarDialer)" on the person for the user who connected, due when the lead asked, saying who calls back.
Written: people
A person is found by phone, then by email, or made, only for a call that reached someone, an interested lead or a callback. A call nobody answered only updates a person who already exists.

Troubleshooting

"Nutshell wasn't connected: Nutshell didn't accept that email and API key."

The email isn't the Nutshell user's sign-in email, or the key was deleted. Check both and connect again; make a new key under Setup, API keys if needed.

"Enter the email address you sign in to Nutshell with."

The email field was empty or not an email address.

"Paste the API key from Nutshell (Setup, API keys)."

The key field was empty or had spaces in it. Copy the key again.

"That Nutshell account is connected to another SolarDialer account."

A Nutshell account can be linked to one SolarDialer account at a time. Disconnect it there first.

The connection shows Disconnected: "Nutshell refused the API key"

The key was deleted, or its user removed, in Nutshell. Make a new key and connect again from the Nutshell card; your rules are kept.

A new person or lead wasn't called

Check that they were added (or the lead moved) after the rule, that the person has a phone number not marked opted out, that they weren't already called through SolarDialer, and that their phone isn't already a lead in your account (a number belongs to one lead). Then check that the campaign is running.

Adding a tag in Nutshell didn't bring the person in

Nutshell's change log doesn't record tags, so there are no tag rules. Move a lead to a stage your rule watches instead.

"Your Nutshell pipelines couldn't be read just now; reload to add a rule."

Nutshell didn't answer in time. Reload the page.

"That wasn't found in Nutshell. Reload and pick again."

The stage was removed, or its pipeline archived, after the page loaded. Reload and pick again.

The SD tags don't appear

The user who connected may not make tags. Calls are still logged; SolarDialer tries again once a day.

"Last problem sending results" with "(trying again shortly)"

Nutshell was busy or didn't answer. SolarDialer waits and tries again, longer each time; nothing is lost.

FAQ

Why an API key and not a Nutshell sign-in?

Nutshell offers no sign-in for outside apps, so SolarDialer connects with an API key, as Nutshell's own API guide describes. The key is stored encrypted and only ever sent to Nutshell.

How fast is a new person called?

SolarDialer looks at Nutshell every minute, so they join the campaign within about a minute. The campaign calls them on its schedule, within the lead's calling hours.

Do I get results for calls made before I connected?

No. A new connection gets the results of calls from then on.

What if I delete or merge a person in Nutshell?

The next result for that lead finds the person again by phone or email (the one kept after a merge), or makes a new one.

Does moving the lead on stop calls?

No. A person who joined a campaign stays a lead there. Removing a rule only stops new people joining.

Will people be called outside calling hours or after asking not to be called?

No. People are called only within their state's calling hours, never when they are on your do-not-call list or asked not to be called, and at most the attempts your campaign allows. A do-not-call request adds the tag SD Do Not Call.

Can I connect two Nutshell accounts?

One per SolarDialer account. Disconnect the first to connect another.

What does it cost?

The connection is free. Calls are billed by the minute from your SolarDialer balance, with $2 of free calls every month.

Disconnect

  • Click Disconnect Nutshell under Your CRM on Account, Integrations. The key is forgotten at once and results stop going to Nutshell.
  • Delete the key in Nutshell too (Setup, API keys) if no other app uses it.
  • Your leads and calls stay in SolarDialer, and nothing is removed from Nutshell. To have your SolarDialer data deleted, email info@solardialer.net.
